Grades 1-3. Seasonal Poems and Phonics, Too! By Betsy Franco. Forty-four delightful, lively, and fun poems - one a week for the entire school year! Half of them connect with the seasons of the year. Title 1 Approved
Hear the rhythm and cadence of poetry and the joy of poetic language with the children in your class. The topics of the 44 poems reflect a child's world. This book provides a delightful poem for every week of the year, including poems for the seasons. The poems are relevant, lively, touching and thematically appropriate. Suggestions are given to bring out the specific phonemic focus for each poem, as well as ideas for making the poems personal and interactive. Each poem is provided in two ways: a student copy of the poem which makes a great home connection and easy-to-create poetry strips which will fit into a Desktop Pocket Chart. Enrich your students' exposure to poetry and at the same time fit it in with the reinforcement of a particular phoneme. All 44 poems have a different phonemic focus: consonants (7 poems), short and long vowels (15), consonant digraphs (4), initial and final consonant blends (4), suffixes and contractions (7), and vowel patterns (6). Suggestions concentrate on the specific phonemic focus for each poem, as well as ideas for making the poems personal and interactive. A collection of Mini-Books, too!
