Monday Minute - Leaves November 09 2009
[caption id="attachment_3171" align="alignleft" width="177" caption="Photo by Nina_999"][/caption]This is my favorite time of year. The colors of leaves, the quality of sunlight, the particularly specific blue of the sky and the crisp air give me joy like no other time of the year.
I have invariably passed these feelings on to my own kids, boys who are seven and four years old. My oldest has a knack for observation and poetic images, one time describing the cloudy sky as a "warm blanket." So I took much satisfaction from a conversation we had the other day while driving, especially since car time can be a little hum drum.
"Mom," he said. "It's raining leaves!"
And suddenly, instead of seeing bare asphalt with a yellow line down the center stretching in front of me, my mind whirling with thoughts of all that needed to be taken care of, I saw what he meant. Red, orange and yellow leaves danced in the wind, blown from the trees in a myriad of directions before finally falling to the ground.
Just another reminder of why I love this time of year.
