Frugal Friday - Our Own Stimulus Package! October 02 2009

Since its inception last year, millions of federal dollars have been made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Teachers - YOU - can use this money to buy Title I approved products for your classroom! But how do you gain access to these funds? And what can you do with them once you get them?

My research to answer this question resulted in the Spotlight on Stimulus Series. These articles target specific areas to help us all understand and stay informed concerning this federal money for education.

Spotlight on Stimulus Series

Stimulus 101 - A general overview of funds provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Title I - More information concerning funds targeted toward Title I programs.

IDEA - Stimulus money has been made available for students covered under the Individual for Disabilities Act.

Grant Writing - The Federal Government has increased amounts of grant money due to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Interested in procuring a grant? I provided some simple steps to get started!

Our Contest

Of course, we had to create our own Stimulus Package here at Teaching Resource Center! We want to give away $100 of store credit, so we're having a contest! The topic is "Stimulus Funds: My Story." Entering is easy:

Submit a true story involving your experience with stimulus funds (500 words minimum, 1,000 words maximum).  This could include how you're trying to access these funds, how you would use these funds, or how you've already been able to use them, but it could also include a different angle. Photographs and video are accepted with each entry.
  2. Include your full name, the grade(s) you teach, your email address, and your city/state.
  3. Email your entry to, and include "Stimulus Entry" in the subject line. Attach your story as a Word document OR copy and paste it into the body of the email.
  4. Contest Opens: NOW. Closing Date: Friday, October 16th. One entry per person.

If your story is chosen, it will be published on Teaching Resource Center, and you'll receive $100 in store credit! Enter today!
