Monday Minute - A Summer Evening July 27 2009

The summer night is like a perfection of thought.
--Wallace Stevens

At the back of our house is a sliding glass door that leads to a deck. From the deck, you can go downstairs to the backyard. But I prefer to stay on the deck.

My husband and children bought me a porch swing a couple of years ago, dark green with an awning and comfortable cushions. It even folds down (like a futon) for those hot summer days where even sitting is too much of an effort.

Summer isn't my favorite season - that privilege is reserved for Autumn, but I do love summer evenings. Dusk thickens while the sun sets, and the kids have been tucked into bed. I grab one (or more) frosty beverages and rock on my porch swing, listening to the croaking of the frogs.

Quiet.

Thinking.

Peace.
