Setting Your Goals for 2009
With the holidays behind us now, everyone is back to work. If your students are like my own first-grader, who had a bonus “snow week” just before the holiday break, they are excited to be back in the classroom. So, to help you start 2009 off on the right foot, we’ve got some new articles in our Teacher’s Corner and a couple of Teaching Resource Center product updates for you.
If you are looking for an alternative to the age old tradition of New Year’s resolutions, you might like to try our simple goal setting exercise instead: Read our article on Setting Your Goals for 2009 and help your students set learning goals and focus on a deeper understanding of the 3 keywords they (and you) choose for 2009!
Does Your Word Wall Need an Update?
If you’re looking for ideas on how to spice up your classroom word wall, we’ve got a few ideas you might find useful to give your word wall a makeover for the New Year. Read the complete article, What are Word Wall Cards?
Beginning Sound Cards
Teaching Resource Center is pleased to announce that our Beginning Sound Cards are back. If you haven’t used these in the past, these materials are great for reading readiness and work in conjunction with the Words Their Way series, by Donald R. Bear, Marcia Invernizzi, Shane R. Templeton and Francine Johnston. All of our materials use the same full-color, whimsical sound picture cues for consistency and constancy. Use our Beginning Sound Cards materials in conjunction with your basal lessons or with your Words Their Way word study!
The Word Writing Books
Written by veteran teacher Pam Miles, these writing reference books will become a valuable asset for every student. Each book begins with a personal speller in alphabetic order and each page contains lists of commonly used words and spaces for your students to add their own. The personal speller is followed by quick reference pages of common abbreviations, contractions, number words, colors, family names, etc. depending on the level (A, B or C) of the book. See details and order The Words Writing Books.
Since we reintroduced Sheron Brown’s invaluable resource, All Sort of Sorts (1, 2 and 3) last October, it has been our most popular Teaching Resource Center Professional Book! We are happy to announce that All Sorts of Sorts 4 is now available on Shop TRC to complete your collection.

Your December Orders Have Shipped
Pending orders that were placed between December 10th and 31st have been shipped on Monday, January 5th. We apologize for any delay but orders did not ship during the holidays since we know many schools were closed, which would have made delivery a challenge in many cases. If you haven’t received your order by Monday, January 12th, please let us know.
You can contact us by email or call anytime. If you call please note that we are using an automated response system so please be sure to leave a detailed message, including your name and phone number. We will try to return all calls on the same or next business day.
Looking Ahead to 2009
Although our ownership and structure have changed, we remain dedicated to serving all of you as we have for the last 25 years.
As you may already know, due to changes in the industry and economic situation, the previous owners of Teaching Resource Center closed the warehouse in San Diego. Since that time, we have been working to make as many of the products you know and love available as quickly as possible. Our partnership with Amazon and other suppliers have changed the way we do business and we leverage these partnerships in order to bring you the quality teaching resources you expect at the lowest possible cost.
We look forward to reintroducing as many of our Exclusive TRC products as possible in 2009 and to bringing you new products and resources as well.
