Shamrock Classroom Painting Project

Grades: K-2
Ages: 4-6
Project Objectives: To provide students with a fun classroom St. Patrick’s Day painting project.

Materials you’ll need:

• Shamrock patterns (black & white or color)
• Green and white paint
• White construction paper
• Bubble wrap
• Rubber bands
• Paper plates
• Gold glitter

Steps to complete project:

1. Have students mix up three shades of green paint using the paper plates. Be sure to instruct them to mix green and white paint to create various shades of green.
2. Use the bubble wrap to make a dabber; use a rubber band to hold it firmly in place.
3. Have your students cut shamrock shapes from white construction paper.
4. Instruct the kids on how to paint their shamrocks by dabbing the bubble wrap into paint and applying it to the paper.
5. Before the paint dries, have your students sprinkle their shamrocks with gold glitter to add a decorative touch.

Shamrock Hearts Drawing Project

Grades: K-6
Ages: 4-12
Project Objective: Students learn that three heart shapes can be used to form a cute shamrock.

Materials you’ll need:

• Plain paper
• Pencils, Markers, or Crayons

Steps to complete project:

1. Instruct students to practice drawing heart shapes for their shamrocks.
2. Show the kids how to form a shamrock using three of the heart shapes.

Polymer Clay Lucky Charm Craft Project

Grades: K-6
Ages: 4-12
Project Objective: Students will learn how to mold clay into the shape of a shamrock.

Materials you’ll need:

• Green polymer clay; you can blend two shades to give the shamrocks swirls.
• Paper clips

Steps to complete project:

1. Have your students roll the clay into three 1-inch-thick balls an then mold the balls into heart-shaped leaflets. The fun part is sticking the leaflets together at the pointed ends.
2. Instruct the kids to bend and connect the paper clip to form the stem of their shamrock, which also serves as an easy way to hang it from a ribbon or chain when complete. Have them place some clay over the top to hide and seal the paperclip stem into place.
3. Have the students turn over the shamrocks and use a pencil to etch center creases into each leaf and add leaf-like texture.
4. Follow your clay manufacturer’s directions to bake the shamrocks
