Debbie Diller has been an educator for over 25 years and has taught preschool through the 10th grade in public schools. She has been a classroom teacher, Title I teacher, and a literacy coach. Currently, Debbie trains teachers throughout the U.S. on how to meet the needs of all students as readers and writers.  Her travels and teaching have reached thousands of classrooms.

Did you Know?

Debbie is friends with Betsy Franco, another TRC author. In fact, they met at IRA (International Reading Association) one year and talked about being writers. Betsy asked Debbie if she had ideas for poems that teachers had trouble finding. Quickly, Debbie replied, "Poems that are short and start with high-frequency words, especially for kindergarten and first grade!" Thus, the seed for Betsy’s series, "My Very Own Poetry Collection" was planted. It is one of Debbie’s favorite sources for poems for the Poetry Work Station.

Why Debbie Decided to Write for Teachers

Debbie’s interest in teaching with children’s names goes way back to the 1970’s when she first began teaching Pre-K and kindergarten. She noticed that the first words young children learn to read and write are their names. After surveying books on the market about teaching with children’s names, Debbie decided to fill a much-need void and wrote "Beyond the Names Chart." Many people who are familiar with literacy work stations don’t realize that this book has many ideas for names work stations. Tell a friend and spread the word!

Teaching Resource Center Literacy Task Cards

Task Cards for Literacy Work Stations began as an outgrowth of Debbie’s work with bilingual classrooms in Houston, TX where she lives. As she worked in bilingual classrooms and taught bilingual teachers, she was sensitized to their cry for "Spanish materials, please!" So she developed task cards to help teachers and their students get started with literacy work stations and included a Spanish translation and pictures on each card to meet the needs of English language learners (and their teachers).

Debbie is the author of the best-selling books:

Please look for Debbie’s Literacy Task Cards here again very soon; we hope to have the task cards available in August!

  3. Please respond to teachers asking questions on this website!!!

  4. I was wondering when the book Beyond the Names Chart by Debbie Diller would be in stock. I have looked quite a few times on your website, and it is always out of stock. Are there any plans to get it back in stock or is it not going to be printed anymore? Thanks for your response.
